checkered past finish from Making A Lather

checkered past is finished. It is made using recycled shirt fabric from thrift store shirts.  checkered past is a free pattern from quilted twins. There are only 16 blocks which doesn't sound like very many, but there 48 squares around each center. that's 960 squares. The block is 16 1/2.

64 x 88 =18 yards

I used leftover pieces for the border

I used navy binding and free form swirls quilting

This will be a donation to our local veterans home

friday group and bunnies from Making A Lather

One of my 5 quilts ufos is this little bunny quilt I started a few years ago. I opened the box, recently, and, discovered fabric and bunny blocks. At my Friday group, I used a jelly roll to make the solid sashing and a matching fat quarter bundle to make the squares sashing. I have the perfect border fabric for it in my stash. I wanted this for a baby quilt.

Judy surprised us with a finished boho heart top that is gorgeous. Now, I am the last one that needs to finish.

fair and square project from Making A Lather

I knew I was going to need more projects to take for our Friday and open sews coming up in April. I decided to dig out Fair and square and see what was next for moving this project along. The first thing I did was check the blog posts for any mention of this quilt. And I was surprised to read that this project has been a mystery with me from the beginning. I wrote this in 2019  about a string puzzle

Admittedly, it has been awhile since I sat at the treadle to make string blocks. But, when I ...

stash report April 3, 2022 from Making A Lather

I had a Friday group sew, and, I didn't have a project ready, so, I grabbed a scrap bag and my stripology ruler, and, I started cutting. I always have questions from others about my scrappy cutting and using. It seems a mystery to them. How do I store? how do I use? how do I make all those different colors go together? etc. One of my best quilting buddies saves scraps, too, but, in squares, not strips. I would prefer strips, and, I would be happy to cut them into squares when I need them. Otherwise, I am ...

dashing from Making A Lather

I did orange dashes for the full stop quilt that Angela is doing. I need to do the question mark, and I think I am missing another one. This is part of the rainbow scrap challenge at so scrappy. I can't figure out a way to get the whole row in a picture.... yet. It would help if I had more empty flat spaces.

Yesterday at Friday group, we had some impressive quilts getting close to a finish.

checkered past top from Making A Lather

Last week I sewed 3 out of 4 rows together for checkered past. I was at the guild's open sew and had time to concentrate on joining the rows with sashings.

At Friday quilt group, I sewed all 4 rows together for a finish of the top. I have decided to add borders. The pattern calls for another set of blocks around the quilt, but, I don't think I want it that large.

boho heart from Making A Lather

I took pictures of our last Friday group - I don't always remember. Linda was missing. I believe we are on week 7 of Boho heart. I have just finished week 4. I am not a big fan of making one block at a time. I prefer chain piecing - start sewing and keep going.

Sue's red and purple version

My rainbow version

We have been harvesting longevity spinach. This is new to us this year. And it is a prolific plant. Nothing killed it. And it didn't bolt like regular spinach.  We didn't like it cooked plain ...

boho heart QAL from Making A Lather

We have been making progress on our Jen kingwell boho blocks. Our Friday group is working together on this quilt as a QAL. Sue and Linda have kept up each week with the assignments. The rest of us are in various stages of behind. I just finished week 2 completely. We are on week 5.

mine

my daughter's block

We made these separately. Linda is working from her "wild" box and I am doing mine in rainbow stripes. Funny, how each of our blocks looks very much alike.

boho heart start from Making A Lather

Oh, and by the way, I won the jelly roll race, Saturday, with my border attached to sea swept.

I mentioned earlier that my Friday group is working on Jen Kingwell's Boho Heart quilt together. Our first assignment was to do the 10 inch offset dresden and all the 2 inch 4 patches. They still need to be trimmed.

Sue is mostly reds and purples

Linda is wilds

I still needed to applique the center and trim the block.

me - rainbow colors

Our second assignment was the two gardenvale 10 inch blocks and all the 4 inch pinwheels.

Sue ...

swept away from Making A Lather

I finished piecing the sea swept cornerstone blocks at Friday quilt group.

And then I had to trim them. I used the studio 180 squared squared to trim them.

And then I counted them - sigh, I am 6 short. hmm- maybe I had the steps backward. haha

But, they are beautiful and I am so pleased.

Sue is back to Friday group after covid. We have missed her.

and I gave Linda her quilt back after quilting it. It was a beauty.

to do: brag about my friends from Making A Lather

My Friday group meets at the library. There are 3 of us, that meet regularly, and, we have another 5 that comes many times, but, off and on. They are all very talented, and approach quilting differently. That's why I enjoy it so much. I just like to make quilts. I may not have a reason to make one or a plan on what I am going to do with it. I may have several projects going at the same time, and, I tend to bounce around from project to project. I quilt my own quilts on a longarm ...

Lucy's basket from Making A Lather

We had a visitor to our little Friday quilt group. She had made these little fabric star ornaments for each of the guild members for our Christmas meeting. We were all thrilled. When she made a visit with us she taught us how to make them.  I could follow along with her and made mine, but, I don't think I could do it again on my own.

This was the day I put my basket quilt together. I don't have a plan beyond this. I am guessing it is about 65 by 70.  Each basket is 3 1 ...

woven from Making A Lather

I'm pretty excited to have woven checkerboards as a top. Now that I see the picture, I think I will add at least a black border. hmmm...

I really like seeing all the different scraps in this quilt that I used as part of the rainbow scrap challenge, and, it seems, I rarely use black, because, I had lots of options in the black scrap basket.

In our Friday group, Sue made Editya Sitar's Christmas tree

And Maris made a patriotic soul searching, with plans to donate it to the vet's home in town.

I have clue 3 finished for the quiltville mystery, frolic.

Clue 1, Clue 2

I haven't started clue 4 and clue 5 came out this morning. Christmas has me a bit topsy turvy.

friday sew from Making A Lather

Last week, our Friday group met together. Everyone was busy with their projects. I really enjoy this time together, but only recently started taking my sewing machine again, after the restrictions for my back surgery were lifted. I have a rainbow crayon quilt I wanted to put together.

I had made the letters, along with the crayon, according to the color of the month for the rainbow scrap challenge. So, if you wondered what the letters were meant to be, this is part of them. I was really interested in letters for 2019. It seems I made letters for everything ...

woven from Making A Lather

At friday quilt group, I had a chance to layout the woven checkerboard quilt on the floor. Cynthia of Quilting is more fun than housework, had made this quilt last year and I really liked it. I have been making the double 4 patch as part of the rainbow scrap challenge this year. It is time to actually sew it together.

I also started putting the wonky courthouse square together in 4s. I can't wait to finish it. It is using up bits and bobs of scraps.

blue letters from Making A Lather

Again more letters, this time in blue. I think that does it for this year. Now, to start putting everything together. I am making these as part of the rainbow scrap challenge.

Fortunately my friends are doing something that doesn't have more letters, and more interesting to view. These are destined for donation quilts.
